Test Drive The First

Our first, pre-game test drive! Feel free to backtag into this to your heart’s content. You may also (with permission from other players) have this be canon to your character’s RP if you wish; you can also tag without concerns of continuity too! Related to this, your Anima companion, spells, elements, etc, can/will change around from the test drive and game-proper.

Be sure to include a starter in your response, so people have something to build off of and tag into; try and tag around different threads too, as players may want to use these threads for RP samples!

1. Monster Hunting
Worried murmurs trace through the settlement of Scholar’s Rest. And the reason is due to rumors of a Bulette spotted nearby, close enough that the land shark poses a town devouring threat. You’ve been asked to scout out, and warned repeatedly not to engage without proper backup. Maybe that’s why the Chivalrous Guild has insisted you take at least one companion along with you. The magic you both carry, and your Anima, will hopefully see you through.
2. Filling In The Blanks
A branch from the Diplomats Guild has approached you with a map. A patch work, incomplete map, but still a map. It illustrates a passage along the Salt Step Range, and several empty points are circled. The Diplomats want you to journey there, fill out the map, and return the completed document. Just watch for shifting passages, rock crumbling, and pack a good meal; you may be out for a bit.
3. Shrine Tending
Ripple is a half sunken ruin, and some of these ruins carry old carvings suggesting shrines. Many of them are covered in marine plants, obscuring images of a sea serpent and various minor gods. The Devout hope to clear some of these carvings and unearth new shrines, and thus receive the blessings of the gods depicted in them. The one complication is in the amount of swimming and potential attention of marine life to reach these shrines in the first place, or needing to crawl down through crumbing passages. But with luck, you and the others they’ve brought along don’t mind getting your feet wet.
4. Searching For Ingredients
The Discoverer’s Guild is running short on items for their alchemy, and one potion in high demand is a brew that strengthens one’s immune system. One of the key ingredients is fruit from the forest around Sun Rise, and an expedition ship has been sent out and anchored near the shore. And with a storm growling in, time is running short, and you may need to brave a blazing forest to find the ingredients.
5. Training Wheels
It’s not an easy task, finding yourself bonded to a new creature and finding your feet in a strange place; there’s any number of growing pains for the two of you. That sometimes means bursts of wild magic, and an Anima creature ready to experiment and test its limits. Maybe your creature is curious, destructive, craving attention, or ready to run off and do whatever it wants. Good thing Haven is big enough for this much chaos… but you might need some help with managing a new Anima.

He's known some fierce ladies in his time, but he's pretty certain this one doesn't fit that description. The egg she's carrying, too, is a bit of a cause for pause. Still, help is help and company is company...

"I think going outdoors will just be the start of this," he answered. "But if you're willing to come, and don't mind a venture into the unknown, then I'm glad for the company."

"Yes sir, I've done that before!" Lyon all but squeaks. "I... actually did that a lot. Before I found myself here."

But it's a bit odd, not having the leader of an army around to follow into the unknown. That shows in the hesitation that crosses her face briefly, and Lyon knows she looks uncertain for just a moment.

"Though... this is a little different. Usually I had my-" even now, 'friends' seems almost too familiar and informal. "Um, my companions with me. But that's not to say you don't look capable, sir!"

He gives her a nod and knows that she's telling the truth, provided the clothing she wears is not a costume. The outfit is quite unique, and even up in his area of the world, well known.

"Your attire...you are one of the Queen's Knights from Falena, correct?"

[personal profile] dawnescort 2017-02-01 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
"You know Falena!?" She yelps out, head bolting upright and setting the red ties in her hair to swaying. Her hands are equally active, the pink sleeves rustling from the motion, once she waves them around in shock.

It had taken some effort, getting these clothes tailored to something that looked like an apprentice knight, and felt like being back home, in some small way. But if this man's reaction is anything to go by, it's been effort well spent.

"I-I mean... yes. Though actually I'm an apprentice knight," and Lyon says that in a way that shows she's had to clarify her title many, MANY times. "But... I am from Falena. That's correct."

Her hands are still up in the air, half outstretched.

"But... how do you know that? Are you from there too?" She tilts her head to the side; she's never seen him before, but that can easily mean nothing. Falena is a big country, after all.

"I have heard of it," he said, giving a slight nod of his head as they continue walking. "Though, I've never been to the Southern Continent. I am from Zexen."

“Ze… Zexen?” Why does that seem familiar? It’s a term Lyon swears she’s heard before, and from the way her face scrunches up, she’s trying hard to remember where. While she thinks, she falls into step a little behind this newcomer; certainly not leading by any stretch of the imagination.

“That’s- OH! V-viney del… Zexay? Right? The new port of trade! Well, kind of new at least, as far as settlements go. I remember hearing it discussed in court a few times.” And it’s only now that she realizes they know where the other hails from, but not their names.

“I almost forgot to introduce myself, too. I’m Lyon. Apprentice Queen’s Knight… though you already knew that part.”

He gives her a kindly nod. "Well, it's not so new, but I have a feeling our memories of history will differ quite a bit. I've noticed quite a few different types of people here, and it wouldn't surprise me if the times we all remember are as unique as ourselves."

He walks ahead, keeping a glance to make sure she's coming with him. It's best not to leave a young lady--no matter how well trained in combat alone, after all.

As she introduces herself, he gives her a slight bow of his head and returns in kind. "A pleasure, Lady Lyon. My name is Salome Harras."

"Time travel?" She considers that for a moment... but not with the disbelief that might be expected. After all, she's found herself yanked into another world, with a new set of rules, magic, and creatures.

The only constant is that she still has a pair of runes on her hands, as a small reminder of home. Lyon flexes them for a moment, before dipping her head in a nod.

"Likewise. And... even if there is a difference, it's nice to meet someone from my own world. I'd like to help you even more now... if that's fine by you?"

He considers a moment; perhaps they haven't traveled in time, but from different times. "I'm not certain it's time travel in the sense I've heard such term used before, but more of a gathering of people from different places and times."

There's a pause as he considers mentioning he has read her name, in a history book or two, but decides against it. Such information would likely just be upsetting.

"I would greatly appreciate the help, especially from one of the renowned knights of Falena." And, with a smile, he acknowledges the marks on her hands. "You are skilled with runes, then?"

dawnescort: (Eheh)

You have no idea how happy I am that I get to use Lyon's "apprentice knight" running gag

[personal profile] dawnescort 2017-02-09 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well actually I'm just an apprentice-" Why do people keep overlooking this fact? But she doesn't get the chance to ask that question, or in fact finish the her sentence. Not when the question of runes is brought up.

"Oh! Yes, I am. Most of the knights," apprentice or otherwise. "Are skilled with them."

She lifts her right hand to show the flowing rune attached to it; the rune gives a small shimmer of blue and turquoise light, just stirring when brought to attention.

Her other hand... she's a little bit slower to show off. From the way Lyon hesitates, she almost seems a bit self conscious about it. She gives her left hand just a the slightest twitch to show case the odd looking, half circle on the back of it, before quickly trying to change the subject.

"What about you? Is Zexen using runes, too?"

He nods in approval at the Flowing Rune, and removes one of his gloves to show the exact same. "Yes, we are, and it seems we have similar strengths." Replacing the glove, he adds: "I wear Shield on my other hand as well."

At her hesitation in showing her second rune, he raises a bit of a skeptical brow. "Dawn?" he asks, keeping the simple question gentle.

He knows; it’s the first thing that flashes through Lyon’s head, and she isn’t sure if she should be relieved or spooked by that.

It’s followed by ‘has a rough idea,’ because the name isn’t QUITE a match for what she’s carrying. And it’s a good thing, as that would mean the Prince-

Lyon decides not to go down that path, shaking her head both at the question and to dislodge that hypothetical situation of carrying the Dawn rune.

“T…Twilight, actually. I’m… still sort of getting used to the idea that is chose me.” Which is quite the understatement. She half covers her hand holding the rune, before giving up and showing the mark; it’s not like she can hide what she’s carrying, with how fast Salome picked up on it.

"Ah, forgive my mistake. I have only seen illustrations of them in books." He gives a kindly nod, cognizant of the distress the conversation seems to be causing the girl. "Shall we head on? I think we have a few more markers to find before nightfall."

"Y-yes, that sounds like a good idea! It's what we were sent out to do, after all, and I don't want to leave the job undone." She's chattering a bit, Lyon knows. But it's better than focusing on the rune she's carrying, and he seems ready enough to give her a way out of that conversation.

Besides, she can do more than just talk, evidenced in how she does a quick dash ahead to scan the trail.

"I think I can see another one, a few rocks up!" She waves to what looks like a set of stones stacked one on top of the other, shoulders rolling the egg she's carrying and causing her to pause. "Um... direct climb, or take the switch backs?"
